Two automated techniques for analyzing and debugging Mpi-based programs

چکیده
Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the most commonly used paradigm in writing parallel programs since it can be employed not only within a single processing node but also across several connected ones. Data flow analysis concepts, techniques and tools are needed to understand and analyze MPI-based programs to detect bugs arise in these programs. In this paper we propose two automated techniques to analyze and debug MPI-based programs

Verifying Parallel Programs with MPI-Spin
Standard testing and debugging techniques are notoriously ineffective when applied to parallel programs, due to the numerous sources of nondeterminism arising from parallelism. MPI-Spin, an extension of the model checker Spin for verifying and debugging MPI-based parallel programs, overcomes many of the limitations associated with the standard techniques. By exploring all possible executions of...
متن کاملAn Implementation of Race Detection and Deterministic Replay with MPI
The Parallel Debugging Tool (PDT) of the Annai programming environment is developed within the Joint CSCS-ETH/NEC Collaboration in Parallel Processing. Similarly to the other components of the integrated environment, PDT aims to provide support for application developers to debug portable large-scale data-parallel programs based on HPF, and message-passing programs based on the MPI standard. Fo...
متن کاملIDLI: An Interactive Message Debugger for Parallel Programs Using LAM-MPI
Many complex and computation intensive problems can be solved efficiently using parallel programs on a network of processors. One of the most widely used software platforms for such cluster computing is LAMMPI. To aid development of robust parallel programs using LAM-MPI we need efficient debugging tools. However, the challenges in debugging parallel programs are unique and different from those...
متن کاملOvercoming Distributed Debugging Challenges in the MPI+OpenMP Programming Model
There is a general consensus that exascale computing will employ a wide range of programming models to harness the many levels of architectural parallelism [1], including models to exploit parallelism in CPUs and devices, such as OpenMP. To aid programmers in managing the complexities arising from multiple programming models, debugging tools must enable programmers to identify errors at the lev...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of a Java-based Distributed Debugger Supporting PVM and MPI
This paper presents a client-server debugging model, describes the design and implementation of a portable, scalable, practical distributed debugger based on this model, and compares it with the related work. The distributed debugger based on the sequential debugger gdb or dbx can efficiently support debugging various PVM and MPI programs, and its interfaces are implemented by Java. Therefore, ...
